Title:   Plastic Attachment: Head
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Broken at neck and at back except where a small portion of back surface preserved. A high cap, or bushy hair, ends low on the forehead. The brows are thick and meet at the bridge of the nose. The nose although broken away was probably rather broad and flat. The cheekbones are high and pronounced. A thick curly beard covers the lower face up to the cheekbones and a moustache fills the space between the nose and the mouth, which seems to be open. The head was covered with metallic black glaze. The piece resembles the satyr rhyton in Williams, Hesperia 47 (1978), no. 69, pl. 103. It may be an Arab or other Easterner rather than a satyr. Probably 4th c. B.C.
