Title:   Red Figure Cup Fragment

Description:   Mended from 19 fragments. About half of bowl, one handle, and half of foot (as one non-joining fragment) preserved.
Torus foot rising to cone underneath, slight offset on top. Top and bottom decorated with coral red, resting surface and outer face of torus reserved, black glazed circle on underside and on offset on top. Bowl a continuous curve from foot to lip, interior of lip offset. Handle joins half way up body, curved up to reach level of lip. Black glaze on outer part of handle, on edge of lip outside, and all of lip inside. Rest of outside and area between lip and tondo in coral red. Red-figure scene in tondo, only partially preserved. A clothed figure (male?) seated right, a knobby staff and indistinct object, lightly dotted, in front. Bottom of stool leg behind. Lower legs and feet of figure largely preserved. Attributed by C. Pfaff to Euphronios, confirmed by D. von Bothmer and M. Moore. Five drilled holes indicate an ancient repair.
Fine black glaze, diluted for details of drapery. Attic clay.
