Title:   Kotyle Fragment: Waster
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Two joining fragments preserving portion of rim and upper wall of kotyle. Fragment partially distorted due to excessive heat. Upper wall becoming vertical, terminating in plain rounded lip. Slight thickening suggests position of handle, otherwise lost. Paint on interior better preserved than on exterior; fired dark brown approaching black. Interior paint except for reserved lip, decorated with sets of short vertical strokes arranged in groups of five. Lower wall on exterior painted, above which are five thin bands. Rim decorated with group of five vertical lines framing metope with double-axe. To left traces of paint suggest either vertical tremulous lines or else stylized birds. Two horizontal bands on exterior lip.
Clay body and reserved surfaces fired close to light brown and pink 7.5YR 6/4-7/4.
