Title:   Pithos Fragments
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Fragment a), made up from five joining fragments, preserves almost half of rim and neck; fragments b) and c) do not join (fragment c) may be from another pithos). Upper wall curving in to relatively short neck and thick projecting rim, flat on top, almost square in section. Surfaces well smoothed. Fragment c) preserves part of applied band (undecorated).
Coarse clay, light red and red: 2.5YR 6/6-5/6. Surfaces closer to pink 5YR 7/3-8/3.
Context:   Grave.
Handling:   Placed on foam rubber layer which is covered with tissue paper lining a shallow cardboard box for support. Separate frags kept in same bag.
The mended fragments are weak due to deterioration of edges which were joined. Handle with as much support as possible underneath.
