Inventory Number:   P 3255
Section Number:   Γ 295
Title:   Rhyton: Human-Headed Snake
Category:   Plastic Vases
Description:   Mended from several pieces; the upper part of the tail at the back missing; also the right arm and chips. The body roughly cylindrical in section; semi-circular in shape. One end is closed by a plastic head, rather crudely modeled; the mouth pierced. Two little arms, attached below, are bent at the elbow, the hands (one missing) held up beneath the chin. Traces of red on the face. The other end is open, and shows, inside, the black glaze of the exterior continuing part way down inside the body. The glaze, however, does not carry over the edge, from outside to inside. This edge seems to have been broken in antiquity and neatly smoothed down. The object rests on four small feet-like attachments. Glazed all over outside with a thick, rather dull black, save for the face, the front of the hair and the arms.
