Title:   Jar Fragments: Thorn Ware

Description:   Two joining fragments (a) and one loose sherd (b) of rounded body of a closed vessel. On outside of a), 5-6 irregular rows of small applied 'thorn' ornaments above (5) broad grooves. On b), parts of two rows of thorns below (2-3) grooves. Wheel ridges on interior. From an early broad closed form (eg., jar with cupped rim), Caesarian-early Augustan period.
Fine thin gray ware with mica specks.

Context:   Env. A. Klepsydra forecourt, behind marble slab south of east end of walls A and B, loose black earth.
