Title:   Red Figure Stemless Cup Fragment: Type B
Category:   Pottery
Description:   The fragment is from near the edge of the lid; the vertical flange which fitted into the box, and the projecting horizontal flange, have broken away but can be traced. The surface of the fragment is very slightly concave. On it is drawn a youth, head in profile left, body three-quarters front, broken at waist and along left side. Right arm outstretched; hand missing. Nude except for a cloak thrown over the left shoulder. Head and gaze bent down toward his right. The drawing of the figure, with relief lines in thin brown glaze, has been finished, and the reserving stripe has been added around the outside; the black glaze background seems, however, never to have been filled in. There is a patch of brownish glaze in the unpainted field at the edge of the fragment. Splotches of glaze appear on the underside of the fragment also.
Attic clay; brownish-black glaze.
Notes:   Published as fragment of red figure plate (PK).
