Title:   Black Figure Neck Amphora Fragment

Description:   From the neck of an amphora; to the right, remnants of a handle attachment. None of the edge of the lip remains, but enough of its flare to preserve, inside, the feet and tails of two of the procession of water birds which ornament its upper surface. Below them, a broad band of glaze; then a reserved band, and then the start of another band of glaze. Outside, above, part of an animal frieze, with the legs and tail of a lion, left. Below, separated from the upper frieze by a band of glaze, Artemis, with curled wings spread, a swan held by the neck in her left hand. Her right hand, and her figure below the hips, missing. The contours as well as the interior details incised. The field thickly scattered with filling ornaments, solid rosettes, incised. Traces of added red on Artemis' hair and wings, on the swan's body and on the lion's haunches.
The clay pinkish buff with a few bits.
