Title:   Pyxis with Lid

Description:   Intact.
a) Flat-bottomed bowl-shaped pyxis; convex side wall, flanged inside to receive lid. Lid and flange pierced for fastening. On pyxis body, at bottom: three bands, zigzag, three bands. A wide band divided by series of three vertical strokes into 16 metopes filled by birds and 4-petalled flowers alternating, the flowers each with four auxiliary straight dotted petals; in the field, horizontal and vertical rows of dots and zigzags. Above, to rim, a zigzag with three horizontal lines above and below. On bottom, inside three rings, a flower with 4 hatched petals; stars in field between ends of petals.
b) Lid: flat round lid decorated with series of three narrow, one wide glazed band, alternating. Spiked knob handle with narrow glazed bands.
Reddish buff clay, dull rather metallic black glaze.
