Title:   Lid Fragments

Description:   a) Part of a very large shallow conical lid, decorated outside with rays around handle-base, then bands and step-pattern. Interlacing incised palmettes, and dots between lines around outer edge.
Attic clay, slipped; dull black glaze, somewhat peeled. Unglazed inside.
b) Ζ 1663: Rim and outer part. Preserved is part of a large palmette with adjoining tendrils; around the edge a border of small solid squares between lines. Incision for the palmette. Black glaze much flaked.

Context:   Brown earth under road fill. 36-39/road test cut. Second fragment from N.E. corner of cemetery, layer II, stone packing in corner.
