Title:   Red Figure Loutrophoros Fragment
Category:   Pottery
Description:   A single fragment, mended from nine pieces, from just below the shoulder. At the top, a wreath of small leaves, with berries between the leaves. Parts of four figures preserved; left to right: the bride and bride groom, he carrying her (or lifting her down from a chariot?). His head overlaps the wreath-border of the scene. Of her figure only the left arm resting on his shoulder and some parts of the drapery preserved. Behind them, two wedding guests, the first shown in three-quarter view. In her right hand she carries a torch; in her left(?) a large casket. Her curling hair is bound by an elaborate diadem. Behind her, part of another figure, a stemmed pyxis in her upraised right hand. Relief contours for the bride and bridegroom and the first guest, not for the second guest. Added clay for berries in the wreath, and for jewels. Brown shading for hair and eyeballs. The glaze rather worn.
Good work of ca. 400 (Aristopohanes?).
