Agora Object: S 1057
Inventory Number:   S 1057
Section Number:   Ψ 354
Title:   Head of Female Figure
Category:   Sculpture
Description:   Nose, mouth and chin battered. At neck, chisel marks, indicating that head was cut from body.
Elongated face, the hair, which is rather roughly worked in "melon-waves", is gathered up into a knot at the top of the head. Ears pierced for rings.
Pentelic marble.
ADDENDA More like a lampadion cut than a melon cut - looks too loose and irregular. Late 4th century. Back left of head roughly chiseled with point at a sharp angle. Looks like a girl from a large gravestone, but would she have earrings? (AS 1997).
Context:   Well, stony fill.
