Title:   Head of Female Figure from Relief

Description:   Broken below at neck. Right side from top to mid cheek missing. Nose, mouth, and chin much chipped and bruised. Drill hole at back to separate it from background.
Female head, half life-size, left, seen in three-quarters view. Luxuriant wavy hair is gathered toward the back in a topknot. Fillet passes behind ears. Lobe of left ear drilled for earring.
Fine workmanship.
Pentelic marble.
From the Altar of Ares Series; cf. S 1451 (Ρ 500), S 1459 (Ρ 543) etc. for style and provenience.
Conservation Status:   Finished
Context:   From marble lining of Byzantine (?) pithos.
