Title:   Draped Standing Female Figure: Aphrodite
Category:   Sculpture
Description:   The head broken off just above the base of the neck; the (raised) right arm, made separately and attached, missing, and the upper part of the cloak, held by the right arm, is broken away. Part of the left hand missing, along with the neck and handle of the hydria, which it held.
The figure, in scale about half life-size, stands in an exaggerated double-curved pose with the weight on the left leg and the body leaning slightly back. She wears a thin ungirt chiton, which falls in a heavy mass of folds between her legs; it is fastened in the right shoulder but has slipped down on the left side, leaving the breast and shoulder free. Across her back is a heavy cloak, which is wrapped around her left arm and was held up behind her head at the right. Her left arm hangs at her side, the hand holding a hydria. On her feet, sandals; the straps not indicated in the marble.
The flesh surfaces at neck and shoulder are carefully finished, contrasting with the drapery; feet, hand and drapery at the back much more summary. Rasp marks prominent.
Part of the iron pin for the attachment of the right arm remains. The surface of the statue is chipped in many places, and in part heavily corroded, especially across the mid part of the figure at the front, and below the right breast.
Venus Genetrix type.
Pentelic marble.
