Description: | Fragment of a male head in high relief facing front, broken off at the neck, perhaps from an Attic grave monument. The crown, forehead and the entire right side of the face, including nose and mouth, are missing. Hair indicated by short, impressionistic locks. Oval face with full cheeks; small partially closed eye with delicate lids; the indifferently modeled ear is set low on the head, and has a long lobe. The neck is carefully modeled, and at its base on the left shoulder is a fragment of drapery. Remains of very thin background. Pentelic marble. | |
