Category: | Sculpture | |
Description: | Broken just below chin. Somewhat battered. Nose and part of upper lip broken away and top of head rubbed. Otherwise well preserved. Flame locks roughly blocked in rising to a peak over forehead. Drill used a little in eyes, nostrils and ears. More carefully worked in front than behind. Seems to be a 1st c. A.D. copy of a Meleager type (cf. Newbold head?) but it looks straight front. Pentelic marble. ADDENDA From a herm? (AS 1997) | |
