Title:   Portrait Statue of Draped Standing Male Figure
Category:   Sculpture
Description:   Head, set in socket, missing. Feet and lower part of drapery broken off; likewise all of right shoulder, arm and chest, left hand missing.
Standing male figure wearing loose himation, one end of which is slung over left shoulder and was probably held at the chest by the right hand. The other end falls to the ground in heavy folds over the left arm, which is held close to the body, the forearm extending slightly forward. The weight is on the left foot, with the right knee bent slightly.
In 1965 a joining fragment was found: the feet, wearing sandals, on a plinth with a book box (scrinium) to the left side of the feet.
Pentelic marble.
The head S 1604 (of later date) was set on this statue for display in August 1957.
Context:   The body was found in a late Roman fill, just west of great drain, with coin for the day (# 25); the fragment with the feet were built into the foundation of a water collecting basin near the southeast corner of the late Roman gymnasium; probably late 5th or 6th century A.D.
