Title:   Stamped Amphora Handle: Rhodian

Description:   Rather broad handle rising high with slight arch; lump underneath.
Light reddish-buff clay; cream slip; large red stain; smutted.
Square impression; fresh, except that the right edge is broken away and the die was not completely set along the lower edge.
The bird stands right with left leg advanced, but looks back towrad its lifted wing; cf. SS 526.
Nilsson (1909), does not cite any bird in his attribute list, nor any exception to his observation (p. 152) about the poosition of the inscription on Rhodian stamps: "La ligne....ne suit pas les petits cotes".
