Title:   Protome Fragment

Description:   A single fragment preserves part of the face of a large protome.
Nose broken off; left eye damaged. Surface quite worn; all trace of added color vanished.
Eye shows pronounced bulge and details were probably once indicated in color.
Mould-made. Various layers of clay can be distinguished, and on inside there are rather deep, irregular vertical grooves made by fingers in the soft clay.
Clay buff at surface inside and out and darker toward core, and contains scattered particles of foreign matter.
From a sizable protome similar to those that have been found on the Acropolis.
