Title:   Mold Fragments for Relief with Banquet Scene
Category:   Terracotta Moulds
Description:   Large flat fragments of a mold for a relief.
Part of the bottom edge of the mold preserved on fragment b); otherwise broken all around. The mold was broken in antiquity, and mended with lead clamps, parts of which remain to the left.
Fragment a) preserves the lower edge of the relief, but not of the mould. To the left, a nude youth, right, approaches to put on a small serving table in front of him some object. In the background, part of a large couch on which lies a draped figure extending a phiale mesophalos to be filled.
Fragment b) is a large piece, mended from two fragments, preserving the lower edge of the mould. Of the scene is preserved part of a couch with drapery (?) upon it; in front of it a small table over which hangs a taenia. On the table are three small objects, one of which suggests a ribbed phiale upside down, another a pomegranate. On each side, the bases of other pieces of furniture, perhaps candelabra (?).
Fragment c) Mended from two pieces; no edge preserved.
Part of a draped reclining figure, holding out a phiale, and part of a youth engaged in serving, exactly as on fragment a).
For another mold for a very similar scene see T 653.
