Title:   Anta Capital: Doric
Category:   Architecture Poros
Description:   Anta capital assembled from 36 fragments. Stoa Poikile series.
On the top of the capital note the following indications for the placing of the architrave: a relieving surface, 0.10m. wide and 0.003m. deep, along the edge toward the colonnade, and a weathered surface 0.10m. wide on the one preserved end of the cap: i.e. the end toward the outside of the building; if the architrave retreated the same width from the opposite end of the capital, its soffit measured ca. 0.763m. wide. On the side of the cap remote from the columns, inside the line of the wall, is a relieving surface 0.17m. wide.
The top outer edge of the attached wall is rebated to a width of 0.15m. and depth of 0.07m.
In the middle of the top of the capital proper are cuttings for lifting tongs.
The material is the light brown granular poros of Aegina. The pigments were applied directly to the stone. The workmanship is good.
An additional fragment b) gives the lower left corner of the front of the anta cap, and will be added to the reconstructed cap when possible.
Very faint traces of blue paint remain on the upper fascia. A large drilled hole (pour channel?) goes in from the left side, not quite straight.
Context:   From late Roman wall to west of Stoa of Attalos; assembled from 36 fragments which together preserve all significant dimensions.
Fragment b) found in marble dump.
