Title:   Frieze Block: Doric

Description:   Block apparently complete. Only the right end has been exposed; in its upper half the end was left rough and its front edge chamfered to take the overlapping next frieze block (?); the lower half is cut square with anathyrosis front and back. A scratched line at the right edge of the metope gives width of 0.60m. In the top of the block a large lewis hole and three pry holes for setting the geison. In the right end, top edge, a shift hole. Block now rests right way up. Its original back worn by traffic before latest reuse.
Hard gray travertine-like poros.
Square Building - South Stoa II series.
ADDENDA Lewis hole made as dowel after clock was set in place. Note the lead still preserved in one end and relation of series of three prys (R.F.T).

Context:   Incorporated in east side of square distributing basin of Hadrianic water system at west edge of Panathenaic Way opposite S.W. corner of Eleusinion.
