Title:   Pediment with Crowning Palmette Akroterion
Category:   Architecture Poros
Description:   Single fragment, broken off at both sides. Most of back broken away, and missing attached upper part of palmette.
Pediment with crowning palmette akroterion from altar. Four holes at top used for attachment of the rest of the palmette akroterion (see A 4997). Holes contain both lead and calcite. (See conservation report for discussion of attachment method--possible repair.) Tool marks over front; either unfinished or intended to be covered with stucco. Back very rough worked..
Probably archaic.
Poros limestone.
Context:   Middle Trench; Well (Layer XIII).
Handling:   to protect the edges the object, especially the broken surface on the bottom which forms a sharp edge, it is best stored in a box lined with Ethafoam.
preferably in a box so as not to lift the object directly
