Description: | Inscribed fragment of grave stele with relief. Broken off above and below; full width preserved, tapering slightly upward. In relief, a loutrophoros, broken off at the neck. On the body, in low relief, two standing male figures, facing and clasping hands. Both wear himatia leaving the right arm and the chest bare. Behind the man on the right, a nude figure (child?); behind the man on the left a woman wearing a chiton, her left hand raised. The names of the two principal figures are inscribed behind their heads: to the left, "ΝΕΟΒΙΣ"'to the right "Χ[Α]ΙΡΕΦ[Ω]Ν. The names and heads seem to have been purposely obliterated. Letters of 3rd., possibly early 2nd. century B.C. Pentelic marble. | |
