Title: | Column Shaft | |
Category: | Inscriptions
Description: | Inscribed column shaft. Largely complete though very battered and worn. Several large cuttings from later use as a millstone. Top drum of the shaft of a large fluted column (Ionic?). The flutes stop well below the top which is somewhat larger in diameter, apparently to receive a dedication. Three indistinct triangular areas-leaves (?)- curl down over the edge, suggesting the placement of the three legs of a tripod. The inscription runs horizontally across the flutes, two letters in each flute.
