Title:   Lamp Fragment
Category:   Lamps
Description:   Bottom of lamp. Mended from two pieces; the top part entirely missing, the lower part preserved complete.
Broad flat bottom, with two almond-shaped grooves enclosing a pattern of diagonal lines and small double impressed circles.
At the back, four grooves, as if simulating a handle. The front of the lamp is blackened from use inside and out, and over the points of attachment to the mold for the top, as if it had been used as a lamp after the top came off; the edges are so smooth that it seems possible that the top part was never added, and that the lamp always had its present form.
Unglazed.
Coarse soft, light red to buff clay.
