Title:   Lopas with Lid

Description:   Casserole: rather less than half missing, with one handle; restored in plaster. Rounded bottom, short angular shoulder, high slightly flaring rim, turned out at upper edge, and flanged inside, for a lid. Horizontal handles set on shoulder and tilted up above rim.
Lid: shallow, domed, with a small plain knob.
Gritty red cooking pot fabric.
Conservation Status:   Finished
Context:   "Foundary Pit", N-S cut on 50m. line, area of Stoa, layer VII, with slag. Second quarter of 4th. c. B.C., ca. 375-350 B.C.
Handling:   Since the base is a convex surface the casserole tends to roll. It should be supported to prevent this movement and should be placed on a cushioned surface. The casserole should not be picked up from its handles.
