Title:   Black Figure Pyxis Lid Fragments

Description:   Three fragments preserve nearly half the circumference of the lid, with the central knob, chipped. Slightly domed lid with broad flat rim; vertical flange, set well in, beneath. High knob with flat projecting top; a broad collar, concave in profile, at junction of knob and lid.
Decoration in black to brown glaze, and purple; around outer edge, black; then a zone of elongated blobs, alternately black and purple, between two narrow purple lines; then a black band, a narrow purple, and around base of handle, a zone of waterbirds, right, in glaze, with pairs of purple dots in the field. Two brown lines around collar; stem of knob glazed; edge of its top purple. On the top, narrow glaze bands and a zone of dots. Underside unglazed. No incision.
Context:   Small early house walls. Clearing among stones and over firm greenish strosis between two cesspools at N.E. corner of Section VII.
