Category:   Pottery
Description:   Handle fragment. Handle is the column krater type; the horizontal top piece is preserved with the outer edge missing. The stump of the vertical support can be seen underneath.
A male head is seen in profile left, against a pinkish cream background. The figure has a pointed, projecting beard, and a twisted lock of hair hanging down his back. Head broken off at forehead and in middle of neck. Incision used to set off the line of the hair and beard, and to indicate a volute-like ear. Corner of mouth and the large circular eye are also incised. Flesh color indicated by purple paint.
Deep pink clay. Brownish-black glaze, the sides and underneath part of the handle covered with the same glaze, which extends on to the upper surface to form a narrow frame for the head.
