Title:   Black Figure Lebes Fragments

Description:   Three pieces from the wall of a large open vase (lebes?) decorated inside with broad bands of brownish-black glaze.
a) Mended from seven pieces. Above, most of a panther and the front part of a large bird; below, the back of a bird, and the head and shoulders of a panther.
b) Mended from three pieces. Above, the hind leg of a panther, and the long curving neck of a bird. All animals to left.
c) Above, part of animal frieze. Chest of siren moving left behind (tail of another?). Below, two horizontal bands over a double, probably multiple series of rows of dots.
Added purple for the panthers' neck, nose and belly stripe and for part of the birds' wings. Rather coarse pinkish buff clay; on the inside a pinkish slip; on the outside a pale yellow-buff slip.
Context:   Green classical fill.
