Title:   Black Figure Lekanis Fragment

Description:   From the wall of a large open vase; broad bands of reddish glaze on the inside. The forequarters of a lion, right, part of his head and of one hind paw are preserved. Filling ornaments: dot rosettes and one blob rosette solid except for a small hole in the middle. Below, a wide border of lozenge pattern. Incision for the lion's jaws, mane, and belly stripe. Red for some of the locks of his mane.
The clay is pale greenish buff toward the outside, which has a slip of the same; toward the inside it is pinkish buff. The black to brown glaze of the decoration has peeled badly; inside, the red bands are well preserved.
