Title:   Bowl with Painted Decoration

Description:   About two-thirds preserved; three rim fragments mended but lower body in one piece. Large chip at foot. One handle missing. Glaze and decoration worn. Large lime inclusion under the rim.
Deep bowl with two deep concentric grooves at center of floor. High straight vertical rim with one preserved horizontal ribbon handle. Handle with two grooves.
Four thin concentric grooves below lip and a large one at bottom of rim. Oblique lower wall; ring foot. Glazed on the interior and most of the exterior, lower half of body with splashes of glaze.
Decoration in thick creamy white over dark red paint: spirals and dots on vertical rim.
Thick dark red to brown glaze on interior, thinner and redder on exterior lower wall. Fine yellow-buff fabric with one large lime inclusion under rim.
Type and design as Roman Local (Athenian) Painted Ware by F.O. Waage (Hesperia 2, p. 305). Cf. P 3097 and P 3099 for similar shape and size (Agora V, K 19 and K 20).
Conservation Status:   Finished
Context:   Found in clayey fill inside late Roman Feature.
