Title:   Amphora: West Slope

Description:   Mended from many pieces; restored in plaster. Broad flat foot; squat body; flat sharp shoulder; wide mouth; rope handles.
Black glaze inside and out. Clay-colored paint and white for conventional patterns on neck and shoulder; added red in two grooves below lip, and one at base of neck. The body below the shoulder is moulded in the manner of Megarian bowls. First, an almost indistinguishable zone, perhaps a guilloche; then a band of rosettes; below, a hunting scene, with vertical fronds underneath. Finally just above the base, a zone of alternating leaves and Erotes.
