Title:   Red Figure Panathenaic Amphora Fragments

Description:   Fragments of a large vase, apparently an amphora, but the inside glazed, dull. Parts of the tongue ornament around the handle attachments preserved. No burning. Traces of damage in making. On each side a single figure; no panels.
a) A: the torso of a nude youth, three-quarters right, holding in his extended left hand a tripod. Around his left thigh, a white fillet; in the field the flying end of another fillet worn around his head. He was looking left(?).
b) B: The lower part and toes of a Nike flying right; wavy brown lines on her chiton.
c) Non-joining fragment of Nike's dress.
d) A large piece from the black glazed body, with tongue pattern around handle.
e) Small piece with the handle ornament.
f) Plain wall fragment.
Relief contour on a) only; the muscles of the torso elaborately rendered in brown. The folds of Nike's dress are painted in broad brown brush strokes.
