Title:   Black Figure Stand Fragment: Inscribed
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Toward right end of upper edge of fragment, part of a hole through the wall of the pot, painted with thin glaze; this interrupts a row of vertical stripes. At left edge, part of a youth's head, facing left; a kylix hangs on the wall between him and the central group which consists of two bearded male figures facing right toward a standing youth. At the right edge of the fragment, small vestiges of glaze and incision. Lower part of scene not clear, owing party to position of rivet from ancient mend. Above the head of the right-hand youth, the name: <graphic> above the head of the man nearest facing him, traces of a name, similarly painted red: <graphic>.
Added purple for hair, beards, breasts, rosette-like ornaments and cushions(?). Further traces of red along lower left edge of fragment. Heavy fabric, unglazed inside; grayish-buff clay, with good pinkish-orange surface. Extensive use of incision for interior details. The hole suggests that the fragment may come from a stand of some sort.
Context:   Pit. With mixed fill (geometric to 4th. c.); upper dumped filling, disturbed.
