Title:   Amphora: West Slope

Description:   Top, one handle and numerous fragments missing. Restored in plaster. A West Slope amphora of unusual shape and twisted handles, at the base of which a mask. Pendent grapes on the neck in thick yellow. Decreasing rectangles on the shoulder. A groove at the base of the neck. Below the handles, another groove and a band of ovolos stamped. On the body of the vase below this, scenes in Megarian bowl technique above elongated palmettes that encircle the base; a ship with two oarsmen and a helmsman between Eros on a goat with dog, and a flying Eros. Rosettes in the field. Base, broad and flaring with a rosette beneath.
Clay sandy and micaceous, non-Attic(?). Glaze much mottled and peeled.
Context:   Cistern system 3, east chamber, strosis 3(?), dark earth and dug bedrock.
