Title:   Herm Head of Propylaios Type

Description:   Broken off at neck, but beard completely preserved; has been chipped away form large statue at back.
Filleted bearded head of Alcamenes type, slightly under life-size, with three rows of snail curls framing forehead; the hair on the top of the head and the long locks at the sides rendered by wavy parallel lines. Long flowing mustache; beard falls in hook curls. A small hole drilled in fillet behind ear on either side of head.
Careful, early Roman (?) work.
Pentelic marble.
Context:   Cistern, strosis III, with S 1076 (ΛΛ 1259).
