Title:   Head and Neck Fragments of Triton
Category:   Sculpture
Description:   Two joining fragments.
a) Lower part of neck with spring of shoulder from a bearded creature with head turned to his right. Good work; surface of marble comparatively fresh. Note spring of background on (proper) right side of neck.
Similar in scale and size to two surviving Tritons (Giants), but with head turned in opposite direction.
b) Head of Triton, joins with neck. Back of the head (including the ears), the tip of the nose and lower right part of beard are broken away.
Surface slightly weathered.
The head proves to be another bearded Triton, of the same series as those standing in place, but looking to his proper right whereas they look to the left.
Pentelic marble.
Context:   a) From marble pile between Odeion and Giants. b) Reported to have been found in the region of the Frankish Tower at Eleusis, in excavations conducted by D. Philias between 1882 and 1889. Transferred from Eleusis Museum (inv. no. 72) to Agora Museum 5 July 1949.
