Description: | Broken at both ends. Tapering and twisting, a slightly projecting spine down the back. Surface rather roughly tooled all over, but rougher on one side than the other. Moderate weathering on one side. The piece must come from just above the tail proper, from the loop of the creature that was cut in the round in order to be carried from the back of the pier to the shoulder of the Triton. Pentelic marble. | |
