Well on the lower west slope of the Areopagus. Tiled well. The tiles were carefully made and clamped together with lead, two clamps at each joint.

Note of 20-III-52 (deposit nb): Have looked up notebook pp. 1101 ff. The fill of this well was certainly Roman, also some part of the fill behind the tiles - but is that only a part tunneled as a passage ... 2nd-3rd c. A.D ... ΝΝ ... ΝΝ:86/ΞΕ |

Simple drawshaft ending in flat floor, no passages. Mixed Hellenistic fill to the bottom. Coins:

Pit (= collapsed cistern). Fill mixed, late Hellenistic to early Roman. The cistern floor has an E-W channel, no doubt running from the pit at 107/Ζ to the well at 107/ΙΓ (B 21:24). Coins:

Back fill in an unfinished well, originally dug only to a depth of 3.80m. Apparently dug in the 3rd. c. B.C. and refilled at once; the filling contained a scattering of 5th. and 4th. c. fragments as well ... To early 3rd century ... ΝΝ ... ΝΝ:104/Θ |
